PRINCETON, N.J. — The Columbia women's swimming and diving team completed its evening of action at the 2019 Ivy League Championships at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool on Wednesday. As it stands, the Lions sit in eighth place in the team standings with 50 points.
Â
"A 'DQ' in the 800 free relay is definitely a tough way to start off the meet," said Columbia head coach
Diana Caskey. "But I'm confident this group will meet this adversity by battling back even harder in the first full session tomorrow morning.
Â
The Lions started things off with a fifth-place showing in the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay. Columbia used the quartet of senior
Mary Ashby (25.21), senior
Jessica Antiles (28.35), first-year
Kasey Karkoska (24.50) and sophomore
Jessica He (22.99) to post a time of 1:41.05, dropping more than a second from their 1:42.34 mark from November's Rutgers Invite.
Â
Unfortunately, Columbia's 800 freestyle relay squad was disqualified due to an early takeoff.
Â
Columbia will be back in action for day two of the championships on Thursday, with preliminaries beginning at 11 a.m. ET and finals kicking off at 6 p.m. Thursday's events will include the 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free, 1-meter diving and the 200 free relay.
