Track and Field Wins Five Individual Events On Weekend

Lions find success in three different meets over weekend.
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y./CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—The Columbia Track and Field men's and women's student-athletes competed at three different events this weekend: Metropolitan Championships and Villanova Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island on Saturday and in the Crimson Elite, Scarlet & White meet at Harvard's Gordon Indoor Track on Friday.
Here is a quick recap with Columbia highlights at each event:
METROPOLITAN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Columbia won four total Metropolitan Championship individual events. On the women's side, Columbia won three events as Simone Kirton won the 60-meter hurdles and registered an 8.73 qualifying time, Emily Digman won the 1,000-meter run with a 2:52.68 time, Rachel Kenny captured the one mile run (5:07.57). On the men's side, Columbia captured one event as Jack Pihlkar won the weight throw with an 18.01m/59-1 1/4 mark.
Lauren Micham placed second and ran an 8.74 time in the 60-meter hurdles, Terri Turner (1:13.93) and Jackie Patterson (1:16.52) placed second and fourth respectively in the 500-meter dash, Hana Sun (10:09.30) and Jenna Farrell (10:22.32) placed second and fifth respectively with personal bests in the 3,000-meter run, Sarah McDonald placed fourth in the 1,000-meter run at 3:02.15. Iman Sule placed sixth in the 200-meter dash (25.30).
Dominic Dyer ran an 8:42.92, good for third place in the 3,000-meter run, Jake Caswell ran a personal-best 1:54.84 and placed third in the 800-meter run, Solomon Rice (2:28.63) and Ian Irish (2:32.13 PR) finished third and fourth in the 1,000-meter run, Brodie Holmes placed fifth in the 200-meter dash (22.27), Noah Johnson finished sixth in the men's shot put (14.96m/49-1 3/4)
VILLANOVA INVITATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS
Abigail McLaughlin won the women's 3,000-meter run with a 9.46.94 time. Robert O'Brien placed second in the men's pole vault with a 5.05m vault. Columbia dominated the women's mile as it placed three runners in the top-5, Annie Fanta (No. 2, 4:49.59), Alexandra Hays (No. 3, 4:50.00) and Julia Sienski (4.52.83). Fanta and Sienski achieved personal bests.
CRIMSON ELITE, SCARLET & WHITE HIGHLIGHTS
Daniel Igbokwe finished in second place in the men's triple jump open with a 15.17m/49-9 1/4 jump. Also providing highlights for the Lions at Harvard on Friday were Maryam Hassan, who finished in third place in the women's triple jump (12.45m/40-10 1/4), Madelyn Sessler, who finished second in the women's pentathlon with 3,276 points.
