Columbia returns home to face the Red Storm at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center on Sunday, Feb. 10 at 1:30 p.m.
NEW YORK — The No. 12 Columbia men's tennis team returns to action Sunday, Feb. 10, as St. John's makes the trip from Queens to the Dick Savitt Tennis Center for a 1:30 p.m. matchup.
All six courts will stream live on ESPN3 and the Watch ESPN app.
The match will serve as Columbia's final tune up before heading to Chicago for next weekend's ITA Team Indoor Championship. The Lions qualified for the event for the fourth time in five years after defeating Virginia Tech (4-0) and Dartmouth (4-1) in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
On the young dual season, Columbia owns a 6-1 record in singles matches, along with a 4-1 mark in doubles play.
LIONS IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
In the first singles and doubles rankings of the spring season released Feb. 6, Columbia proved to be one of the top teams in the nation with five ranked singles players and two ranked doubles teams.
The Lions are one of just four Division I teams in the nation to have five or more ranked singles players, joining only USC (7), Florida (5) and Illinois (5). Sophomore Jack Lin claimed Columbia top singles ranking at No. 11, followed by No. 32 Adam Ambrozy, No. 44 Jackie Tang, No. 54 Victor Pham and No. 105 Jason Lui.
Columbia's duo of Will Matheson and Lin came in at No. 22 in the doubles rankings. It's the 11th-straight rankings in which the tandem has been nationally ranked, dating back to Feb. 20, 2018. Ambrozy and Tang come in not far behind, earning the No. 24 spot.
SCOUTING THE RED STORM
St. John's enters Sunday's match with a 3-1 overall record, coming off three straight wins. The Red Storm's lone loss of the 2019 campaign came in their season-opener on Jan. 19, falling 4-0 to Brown.
The Red Storm are scheduled to face off against Quinnipiac on Saturday at 8 p.m. before squaring off with the Lions Sunday afternoon.
Columbia owns a 27-2 advantage in the overall series between the two programs. The last meeting took place on Feb. 26, 2017, where the Lions grabbed a 7-0 victory. St. John's has not earned a win in the series since Feb. 18, 2012.
LAST TIME OUT
The Lions enjoyed a two-week break from competition after going undefeated in the season-opening ITA Kick-Off Weekend, Jan. 26-27.
ON DECK
Following Sunday's matchup, the Lions will prepare for their trip to the Midwest. Draws and schedules for the ITA Team Indoor Championship are set to be announced Wednesday, Feb. 12 prior to the tournament.
