Men's Golf Travels to Phoenix to Compete in GCU Invite

10 Lions will compete in 54-hole invitational on Friday and Saturday in Phoenix, Ariz.; Weather expected to be a perfect 70 degrees and sunny.
PHOENIX, Ariz.—The Columbia men's golf team will continue its spring 2019 season this weekend at the Grand Canyon University Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the GCU Golf Course (par-71, 7,219 yards).
The 54-hole tournament will feature live scoring via Golfstat at this link. The teams will play 36 holes on Friday and 18 holes on Saturday with a shotgun start of 8 a.m. on both days. The weather is forecast to be a perfect 70 degrees and sunny.
Hosted by Grand Canyon University, 18 teams and 21 additional individuals will compete in the event. Along with Columbia, competing golfers from various teams include Gand Canyon, Missouri, Wyoming, UMKC, UTEP, Pacific, Northern Colorado, Wichita State, Hawaii, UC-Riverside, North Dakota State, Omaha, UT-Rio Grande Valley, Sacramento State, Idaho, Western Carolina, Samford and Colorado State.
Ten Lions are scheduled to compete at the event. Five golfers will compete for the Lions, while five will compete as individuals. Competing for Columbia are sophomore John Robertson, sophomore Youn Sung Kim, sophomore Dan Terrell, first-year Daniel Core and sophomore Arjun Puri. Competing as individuals are junior Cullen Chung, first-year Derek Kim, junior Nick Brisebois, first-year Pat Healy and senior Sunny Yan.
The event is the third tournament that the Lions will compete in this spring. After this week's competition, Columbia will take its spring break trip to California where it will play a head-to-head dual match vs. Menlo College in Palm Springs.
