Three Strong Opponents Await No. 9 Columbia in Texas

The Lions will face UT Arlington, No. 12 TCU and No. 4 Texas over the next five days
NEW YORK — After a two-week break in competition, the No. 9 Columbia men's tennis team returns for a jam-packed week of competition in its spring break trip to Texas, facing a trio of foes – including two top-15 teams – in a five-day span.
The Lions open up the week at UT Arlington on Monday, March 18, at noon ET, before facing No. 12 TCU on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. and wrapping up the trip at No. 4 Texas on Friday at 7 p.m.
With an 8-1 overall record, Columbia will be competing on outdoor courts for the first time this season. The Lions are riding a five-match win streak heading to the Lone Star State dating back to the 4-2 triumph over No. 11 Notre Dame at the ITA Indoor Team Championships on Feb. 16. In their most recent outing, the Lions picked up a 7-0 sweep over No. 39 Tulane on March 3 in New York.
LIONS IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
Columbia enters the week at No. 9 in the ITA National Rankings, although a new set of rankings is scheduled to be released on March 19 prior to the matches at TCU and Texas.
The singles lineup features four ranked players, led by 11th-ranked sophomore Jack Lin. Senior Victor Pham comes in at No. 31 on the list, followed by No. 76 Adam Ambrozy and No. 104 Jackie Tang.
A trio of Columbia tandems are listed in the latest doubles rankings, including No. 10 Lin/William Matheson, No. 13 Tang/Lin and No. 42 Ambrozy/Tang.
SCOUTING UT ARLINGTON
The Mavericks hold an 8-4 overall record entering Monday's matchup, with their most recent outing resulting in a 4-3 victory over UTSA on March 9. UT Arlington is led by senior Enrique Pardo, who owns an impressive 11-1 singles record in dual matches this season.
SCOUTING TCU
The No. 12 Horned Frogs enter the week with a 12-3 mark in overall matches, including winning their last seven contests. TCU is coming off a double header on Saturday, earning a 6-0 triumph over Pepperdine before defeating Loyola Marymount, 6-0.
TCU has four ranked singles players, including No. 7 Alex Rybakov, No. 26 Alastair Gray, No. 86 Bertus Kruger and No. 115 Reese Stalder. Their roster also features two ranked doubles teams in No. 18 Kruger/Stalder and No. 56 Gray/Rybakov.
SCOUTING TEXAS
The No. 4 Longhorns are 16-1 on the 2019 season, with their lone loss coming to No. 2 Ohio State, 0-4, in the ITA Indoors semifinals on Feb. 17. UT will definitely pose a challenge, coming off seven-days rest since their 4-1 redemption victory over the top-ranked Buckeyes on March 14 in Austin.
In singles, Texas' roster boasts three ranked played, including two top-10 competitors. Christian Sigsgaard leads the way at No. 4 in the rankings, followed by No. 9 Yuya Ito. Harrison Scott rounds out the list at No. 49. In doubles, Sigsgaard/Scott combine to form the 13th-ranked duo.
ON DECK
Upon their return to the Big Apple, the Lions will host three-straight home matches at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center, beginning with Buffalo on Friday, March 29, at 1 p.m. ET. The match will be Columbia's final non-conference test before beginning Ivy League action with Yale on April 6.
