No. 35 Lions Earn 4-0 Spring Break Win Over Texas San Antonio

Columbia wins 11th straight, ties school-record for most consecutive victories; Finishes Spring Break Trip to Las Vegas with two wins, improves to 11-1 on year.
LAS VEGAS, Nevada—The No. 35 ranked Columbia women's tennis team tied a school-record with its 11th consecutive victory as it completed an undefeated Spring Break Trip with a 4-0 win over Texas San Antonio Friday afternoon at the Frank and Vicki Fertitta Tennis Center in Las Vegas.
With the win, Columbia finishes off its annual Spring Break Trip with a 2-0 record following a 4-2 win over UNLV yesterday and runs its overall record to 11-1. Texas San Antonio drops to 10-9 in dual matches.
More importantly, Columbia earned its 11th straight victory, which ties the previous mark of 11 consecutive wins from Feb. 28-April 13, 2014. Columbia will vie for a school-record 12th straight win when it opens up Ivy League competition on Saturday, March 30 at Cornell.
On Friday, Columbia was dominant from the start. The Lions quickly secured a 1-0 lead as they captured the doubles point with two easy victories. First-year Akanksha Bhan and first-year Melissa Sakar defeated UTSA's Charleen Tiwari and Kylee Kato 6-0 at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Jennifer Kerr and senior Sarah Hu won a 6-1 match vs. UTSA's Diya Menon and Catalina Cabrique to secure the point for the Lions.
Columbia kept right going into singles play. Hu won the No. 6 singles match when her opponent Catalina Cabrique retired. Sakar then put Columbia up 3-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Mariah Plauth at No. 4 singles. Senior Andrea Kevakian sealed the win with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5 singles over Charleen Tiwari.
