NEW YORK – The No. 6 Columbia lightweight rowing team retained the Dodge Cup for the second consecutive season after topping No. 3 Penn and No. 5 Yale in the varsity eight. It is the first time the Lions have won the trophy in back-to-back-years.
Columbia turned in a time of 5:44.59, which was nearly four seconds faster than the second-place Quakers. Yale claimed third in the main event.
In the second varsity eight, the Lions suffered their first defeat in nearly two calendar years. The Bulldogs edged Columbia by just under four seconds, with Penn rounding out the crews. The Lions also took second in the third and fourth varsity races.
