The Lions hosts Cornell at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center on Saturday at 1 p.m.
NEW YORK — After clinching a share of its sixth-straight Ivy League title last weekend, the No. 16 Columbia men's tennis team will fight for the outright crown on Saturday, hosting the Cornell Big Red at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center at 1 p.m. ET in regular season finale.
The match will be special, as it serves as the final regular season home contest for 37th-year Columbia Alumni and Friends Head Coach of Men's Tennis, Bid Goswami, who announced earlier this year his plans to retire following the conclusion of the 2019 campaign. It will also be the final home match for Columbia's four seniors: William Matheson, Victor Pham, Timothy Wang and Jack Turchetta.
The Lions are riding a seven-match win streak, standing as the last unbeaten Ivy team with a 16-3 overall mark, 6-0 in Ivy play. Columbia boasts an impressive 28-1 record in conference singles matches. Coming off back-to-back road wins at No. 40 Dartmouth and No. 38 Harvard,
Columbia's lineup features three ranked doubles tandems in No. 15 Jackie Tang/Jack Lin, No. 32 Lin/William Matheson and No. 67 Adam Ambrozy/Tang, as well as five ranked singles players in No. 22 Lin, No. 33 Victor Pham, No. 107 Rian Pandole, No. 114 Tang and No. 122 Ambrozy.
SCOUTING CORNELL
The Big Red are seeking a share of the title themselves, sitting at 14-9 overall with a 5-1 mark in conference matches. A win Saturday would give Cornell a share of the title. Cornell is coming off a 4-3 win at Dartmouth last Sunday after dropping its first Ivy match of the season the day before, a 4-3 decision at Harvard. Cornell has won six of its last seven matches.
Two Cornell singles players are ranked in the top 100, including No. 56 David Volfson and No. 100 Alafia Ayeni. Volfson teams with Daniel Soyfer to form the 37th ranked doubles pair.
TRAVEL ADVISORY
Fans should be advised that there will be no public parking available at the Dick Savitt Tennis Center on Saturday. Also, be aware that 1 Trains will not be running between 137 St. and 242 St. on Saturday.
