The three crews faced less than ideal conditions for the second consecutive week with the Terriers taking the trophy for the ninth straight year.
LEONIA, N.J. – With strong crosswinds and less than ideal course conditions, the No. 15 Columbia heavyweight rowing hung tough with a pair of top-10 crews in Boston University and Syracuse, but ultimately took third place at the Doc Lusins Trophy regatta Saturday morning.
The Lions faced difficult obstacles due to weather for the second consecutive week, but was not far off the pace of the Terriers and Orange. Boston University pulled in at 5:49.98, while Syracuse clocked in two seconds behind and Columbia just over three seconds after that.
In the second varsity eight, the Terriers picked up another victory and the Orange claimed the third varsity eight. The Lions placed third in both events and did not compete in the fourth varsity eight that was won by BU.
Columbia closes the regular season on the Cooper River in West Windsor, New Jersey, against Hobart, George Washington and Navy for the Stevenson Cup on Sunday, May 5.
