ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The No. 3 Columbia lightweight rowing team bounced back with a varsity eight victory over Navy to retain the WIT Cup Saturday morning. On the day, the Lions won 2-of-3 races, including a thrilling come-from-behind victory from the second varsity eight.
Columbia pulled in at 5:49.5, just over two seconds faster than the Mids to claim the trophy for the sixth time in the last seven years since it was reintroduced in 2013.
The second varsity eight trailed by nearly a length before a strong sprint to the finish led to the Lions edging Navy by just 0.3 seconds. Columbia's second varsity extended its regular season winning streak to 12, dating back to 2017, with the victory.
A pair of Navy crews topped the Lions in the third varsity eight.
Columbia will round out the weekend against Harvard and Georgetown tomorrow morning at Overpeck Park. The day of racing is slated to begin at 9 a.m.
