NEW YORK — The Columbia archery team will cap off its season this week, traveling to Dublin, Ohio, for the 2019 National Outdoor Collegiate Championships, May 17-19 at Darree Fields Park. The Lions' compound team aims to win its third-straight title, while the recurve squad looks to claim its third team title in five years.
Live scoring for the event can be found at BetweenEnds.com.
The event will also serve as the qualifier for the 2019 World University Games in Naples, Italy. The top two performers from the compound and recurve qualifying rounds will earn a spot on the Team USA roster.
The Lions are coming off strong performances at last month's East Regional Outdoor Collegiate Championships in Harrisonburg, Virginia, where sophomore Christine Kim won the individual recurve title, junior Sophia Strachan earned the individual compound crown and Columbia claimed gold in the team recurve competition.
Five Columbia athletes garnered All-East Regional honors with their performances, including senior Bianca Gotuaco and senior Aileen Yu on the recurve side, as well as Strachan and sophomore Brittney Shin in compound.
Last season, the Lions won the compound team outdoor national championship for the second-consecutive year with a 218-216 triumph over Michigan State, while Columbia took the silver medal in the recurve team division after falling 6-2 to Texas A&M in the finals. Individually, Strachan was the highest finisher for the Lions with a silver-medal performance in compound.
