
Suckow Places 14th on 1-Meter at FINA World Championships

Columbia diver Jonathan Suckow continues to represent Switzerland at the 2019 FINA World Championships in Gwangju, South Korea, this week
GWANGJU, South Korea — Columbia diver Jonathan Suckow made his debut at the 18th FINA World Championships on Thursday evening, placing 14th overall on the 1-meter springboard with a score of 346.60. Suckow was just in reach of moving onto finals, as the top 12 finishers advanced.
"I feel good," said Suckow on his 1-meter performance. "It was a great result and I feel very strong. Within each dive there is a subtle lesson and I feel like I am learning a great deal. I am really looking forward to the 3-meter competition."
Competing for his native Switzerland, Suckow will continue action in the 3-meter prelims Tuesday beginning at 9 p.m. ET. The event will stream live on olympicchannel.com. The top 18 qualifiers will move onto the semifinal the following day, streaming live the at 2:30 a.m. on Olympic Channel featuring the top 18 qualifiers. The top 12 in semifinals will advance to the final Thursday, July 18, at 7:30 a.m. on Olympic Channel. The 3-meter final will also be shown via tape delay on NBCSN at 7 p.m.
"Jonny really looked relaxed and confident," said Columbia diving coach Scott Donie. "It's really a great joy to see him shining on the world stage."
The FINA World Championships serves as a qualification event for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. The top 12 divers in the 3-meter event will earn a spot for their country in the games.
