Jonathan Suckow teams with fellow Swiss Michelle Heimberg to pick up a bronze medal in mixed synchronized 3-meter at the European Diving Championships in Kiev, Ukraine
KIEV, Ukraine — Columbia diver Jonathan Suckow had a tremendous showing at the 2019 European Diving Championships in Kiev, Ukraine, this past week, earning a bronze medal in the mixed synchronized 3-meter event with fellow Swiss diver Michelle Heimberg. The pair made history for their homeland, earning the country's second-ever medal in the championships.
Individually, Suckow placed seventh in both the 1-meter (346.70) and 3-meter (389.55) finals, finishing as the top Swiss diver in both events.
"A great result for Switzerland and Jonathan in every way," said Columbia diving coach Scott Donie. "I am very proud of him. Now he will get right back to work as he prepares for the challenges and opportunities of the upcoming Olympic year."
Suckow is coming off a phenomenal sophomore campaign at Columbia in which he earned All-America honors after placing fifth at the NCAA Championships on the 3-meter springboard.
"Each competition and actually each individual dive is a verse or a stanza in a larger story," said Suckow after the meet. "As one chapter ends, another begins."
