No. 7 Women's Squash Defeats No. 9 Virginia 5-4

Lions win four straight matches to register their second victory over a top-10 ranked team on season.
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.—No. 7 ranked Columbia won four straight matches in claiming a 5-4 women's squash victory over No. 9 Virginia Sunday at McArthur Squash Center.
The victory improves Columbia to 8-4 on the year, while Virginia drops to 8-4. It also marked Columbia's second win over a top-10 ranked team on the year.
After Virginia registered a win at the No. 1 position, Columbia's Bunny Fox answered with a 7-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-9 win at No. 5 over Emily Woodworth. Virginia then took a victory at No. 1 and a slim 2-1 lead.
But Columbia won four straight victories at the No. 4, 9, 7 and 3 positions to clinch the match. Kalgutkar registered an 11-5, 7-11, 4-11, 11-9, 11-9 comeback win over Virginia's Sydney Maxwell at No. 4 to tie the match at 2-2. She battled back from a 2-1 deficit to win the final two games 11-9.
Jane Pincus then defeated Virginia's Tara Arya 11-8, 13-11, 11-4 at No. 9 to improve to a nation-leading 12-0 on the year. Cindy Cao followed with an 11-3, 11-5, 7-11, 11-9 win over Virginia's Julia Thompson and Nicole Kendall gave Columbia a 5-2 lead and sealed the victory with an 11-2, 11-7, 11-8 win at No. 3 over Maria Paula Moya.
Columbia gets back into action next weekend when it hosts Dartmouth on Sunday, Feb. 2 at noon at SL Green StreetSquash.
