Columbia Track & Field had seven top 10 finishes in a solid day at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex.
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – With a personal record time of 2:48.96 in the 1,000-Meter Run, Columbia Track & Field senior Bianca Alonzo finished second at the Villanova Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, clocking what is also the best performance in the Ivy League in the 1,000m so far this season, as Columbia locked up seven top 10 finishes on Saturday, Feb. 1.
HOW IT HAPPENED (WOMEN'S EVENTS): Alonzo barley missed taking first in the race, finishing just behind the first-place time of 2:48.70, clocked by Erinn Stenman-Fahey (UNATT.), but her time is almost an entire second faster than what was the previous fastest time in the Ivy League, which had been held by Victoria Casarrubias (Cornell) who ran a time of 2:49.76 at the Upstate Challenge on Jan. 24.
HOW IT HAPPENED (MEN'S EVENTS): Six of Columbia's seven top 10 finishes came on the men's side, and the best finish came from sophomore Dante Miller, who clocked a PR time of 6.94 in the 60-Meter Dash to finish second in the event. First-year Moe Abusway locked up a seventh-place finish in the 60-Meter Hurdles with a time of 8.64, which matched his qualifying time where he finished eighth in the preliminaries.
In the longest event for the men, senior Jacob Caswell turned in a solid race, clocking a time of 1:53.05 in the 800-Meter Run to collect a top 10 finish, coming in sixth overall in the race.
