Wang Finishes 14th, Lions Take 10th at FAU Winter Warm-Up

With a team-low 73 in Tuesday's final round, Jennifer Wang finishes in 14th place; Lions combine for 296 in final round of tournament.
BOCA RATON, Fla.—After shooting a team-low 296 in the final round, Columbia women's golf completed the 54-hole FAU Winter Warm-Up in 10th place, while sophomore Jennifer Wang led the Lions' individual effort with a 14th place finish Tuesday at the Osprey Point Golf Course in Boca Raton, Fla. Columbia finished the two-day competition at 54-over-par 313-309-296-918. Columbia's final round score of 296 (+8) ranked sixth among 14 teams on Tuesday. Wang (73), first-year Christine Shao (74), sophomore Alexis Florio (74) and junior Katie Lee (75) combined for a successful final round.
The event marked Columbia's first competition of its 2020 spring season. Six players represented the Lions in Boca Raton.
After shooting a three-round best and team-low 73 on Tuesday, Wang moved up eight spots in the competition from 22nd place to 14th. She finished the event at eight-over-par 75-76-73-224 and led the Lions in both pars (36) and birdies (5). In shooting her 73, she fired back-to-back birdies on holes 1 and 2 en route to a one-under-par 35 on the front nine.
With a 74 on Tuesday, Shao continued her move up the leaderboard from 39th to 30th place and ended at 12-over-par 81-73-74-228. She fired four birdies on Tuesday including back-to-back birdies on holes 6 and 7. In Monday's second round, she moved up 24 spots in the standings after using a birdie and eight pars on the front nine to shoot a 73. Shao also finished with five birdies in the event.
Florio's scores also came down with each round. She finished the event in 53rd place with an 18-over-par 81-79-74-234. In Tuesday's final round, she knocked in two birdies and 13 pars.
Lee ended in 57th place at 20-over-par with a 76-85-75-236 score, and Sun rounded out the Columbia scorers in 77th place at 36-over-par 84-81-87-252. Competing as an individual, sophomore Marlene Tartaro finished in 79th place at 39-over-par 78-91-86-255.
Arkansas State battled from behind to win the team competition with a 14-over-par 295-299-284-878, while Yale's Ami Gianchandani claimed the individual competition with a two-under-par 71-72-71-214.
The 54-hole event features 14 teams, including four Ivy League schools. Competing schools include host Florida Atlantic, Arkansas State, Butler, Charleston Southern, Columbia, Dartmouth, Eastern Kentucky, McNeese State, Princeton, Quinnipiac, Seton Hall, Western Carolina, Xavier, and Yale.
The Osprey Point Golf Course is a 6,017-yard, par-72 course.
Columbia is back in action next month when it competes in the Low Country Intercollegiate, hosted by Wofford College at the Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head, S.C., March 14-15.
