Xu earns top 5 to highlight Columbia’s impressive performance
GLENCOE, Ill. — Competing against 11 other teams that were all inside the top 50 of last year's national rankings, the Columbia women's golf team proved it belonged by finishing tied for seventh at the Windy City Collegiate Classic. The two-day, 54-hole event took place Monday and Tuesday at Lake Shore Country Club.
Highlighting the performance, sophomore Kristina Xu tied for fifth on the individual leaderboard with a tournament total of 2-over-par 215. She opened with a clean 2-under 69 at Lake Shore's par-71, 6,361-yard layout, carding three birdies and a lone bogey. The reigning unanimous First Team All-Ivy selection followed with a 74 in Monday's second round and rallied for a 1-over 72 in Tuesday's final round. After bogeying the opening three holes on Tuesday, she made four birdies over the final 15 holes to play the rest of the round in 2 under.
Columbia, the defending Ivy League champions, held their own. The Lions were out in front with a share of the lead after Round 1, opening with an even-par 284. They ultimately tied with Illinois (+28), which ranked No. 49 in last year's final collegiate rankings. No. 1 Stanford, the 2026 NCAA National Champions, won the event at 4-over par.
The rest of the team leaderboard saw No. 34 Virginia (+10) and No. 9 Duke (+10) tie for second. No. 11 Oregon (+12) was fourth, followed by No. 43 Purdue (+17) and No. 19 Arizona State (+21).
