Women's Golf Breaks 54-Hole Team Record, Finishes 2nd in Season Opener

Kristina Xu earns individual runner-up honors
LEWISBURG, Pa. — Led by another standout performance from sophomore Kristina Xu and a dominant overall team effort, the Columbia women's golf team earned a second-place finish this weekend at the Bucknell Fall Invitational. The Lions broke the program's 54-hole team scoring record, posting a three-round total of 22-over-par 862 at Bucknell Golf Club.
Xu spearheaded Columbia's record-setting performance with an individual runner-up finish. The sophomore from Claremont, California, posted a tournament total of 2-over-par 212 to lead the Lions' lineup. After an opening-round 73, Xu surged up the leaderboard with a 3-under-par 67 on Saturday – matching her career collegiate low and tying the second-lowest round in program history – before sealing second place in Sunday's final round.
Columbia's depth was on full display throughout the weekend, as the Lions placed seven players inside the top 20 and five players in the top 10 of the individual leaderboard. They sent two teams and the entire roster of 11 players into action. Their top team posted rounds of 292, 284 and 286 across the three-day event, eclipsing the previous 54-hole record of 866 set at last season's Princeton Invitational.
The five players who represented Columbia's top team were Xu, sophomore Bridget Chantharath, first-year Juliana Hong, junior Sarah Shao and sophomore Emily Zeng. Chantharath (+8) and Hong (+8) tied for fifth, Shao (+9) tied for eighth and Zeng (+10) tied for 11th. Christine Chang (+4) was impressive as well, playing on Columbia B and tying for third. She was the first-round co-leader after shooting an even-par 70 on Friday. Fellow junior Emily Luo (+12) also represented Columbia B and tied for 16th.
Bucknell (+20) won the team competition, holding off the Lions by two shots on the Bisons' home course. Columbia's B team (+54) finished fourth in the 16-team field.
The Lions return to action in two weeks when they make the short trip to New Jersey for the Princeton Invitational at Springdale Golf Club.
