Lions Wrap Penultimate Day at Ivy Championships

Columbia women's swimming and diving recorded six individual podium finishes on Friday evening
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Columbia women's swimming and diving wrapped up its penultimate day at the 2020 Ivy League Championships on Friday evening, garnering six podium finishes along the way.
As it stands, the Lions sit in sixth place in the team standings with 527 points.
Columbia garnered six podium individual podium finishes on the evening, plus securing a top-eight finish for sophomore diver Briget Rosendahl, who will compete in tomorrow's 3-meter finals.
"Very strong performances from all three women's divers," said coach Scott Donie. "To have all three final in both events is really outstanding. These are the best results we have had since I arrived at Columbia. It is a really special group."
Competing in the consolation final of the 3-meter springboard, first-year Livy Poulin notched an 11th-place finish with a score of 269.30, while sophomore Michelle Lee took 13th overall with a 259.25 mark. Both improved upon their preliminary scores.
Earning Columbia's highest finish for the second night in a row, senior Helen Wojdylo took the silver medal in the 100-yard breaststroke, registering an NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:00.33. First-year Isabella Fratesi also qualified for the evening's championship final, placing eighth in 1:02.73.
The Lions also had two swimmers in the 'A' final of the 400 individual medley, with first-year Karen Liu finishing fourth (4:18.07), ahead of eighth-place teammate Mary Pruden (4:22.68), who also earlier turned in a 15th-place time of 10:08.60 in the 1,000 free.
After winning the consolation final of the 500 free the previous night, first-year Olivia Jubin grabbed a fourth-place finish in the 200 free, going an NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:47.10.
The 100 backstroke saw senior Julia Samson earn a top-10 finish for the third-straight year, including her second-straight appearance in the championship final. Samson carded an eighth-place time of 55.63.
Finishing off the evening, the Lions' grouping of Samson, Wojdylo, Jubin and sophomore Clare Larsen came together for a sixth-place time of 3:42.05 in the 400 medley relay.
