NEW YORK – On senior day, No. 6 Columbia Women's Squash battled hard, dropping four five-set matches which would be a factor in an 8-1 loss to Ivy League foe No. 3 Princeton to wrap up the 2019-20 season on Sunday, Feb. 9 at the SL Green Streetsquash Center.
Before the match, the Lions honored and celebrated their two seniors,
Jui Kalgutkar and
Tara Dugel.
HOW IT HAPPENED: At No. 1,
Habiba Mohamed collected a four-set win, 5-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-6, bouncing back from a first-set loss to knock off Elle Ruggiero. But a factor in the match would be four five-set matches that the Lions battled hard in but would drop across four different spots.
At No. 2,
Nicole Kendall traded opening sets with Emme Leonard, taking the third set before dropping the next two to fall, 11-8, 11-13, 11-7, 9-11, 10-12 to Leonard.
Cindy Cao had a very similar match to Kendall, with Cao facing Morgan Steelman at No. 7, with Cao taking the first two sets before dropping her final three sets to lose, 11-8, 12-10, 6-11, 5-11, 7-11, to Steelman.
Columbia's final two five-set battles came at No. 8 and No. 9, with
Jane Pincus dropping her first match of the season in a 11-9, 1-11, 14-12, 4-11, 8-11 battle against Emily Rose at No. 8. At No. 9,
Doria Chen traded sets with India Stephenson, but the battle would fall the way of Rose with the final score at 11-9, 1-11, 14-12, 4-11, 8-11.
