Columbia Squeezed By No. 11 Syracuse, 3-0

Goalkeeper Alexa Conomikes made nine saves in the defeat.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Columbia field hockey team dropped its third-straight after being shut out by No. 11 Syracuse, 3-0, Sunday. The Orange (8-2) did all of its work in the first half and played stifling defense throughout, holding the Lions (6-3) to just one shot in the contest.

Senior goalkeeper Alexa Conomikes made nine stops in another superb performance for Columbia. Sophie Rockefeller's shot in the 38th minute was the lone attempt for the Lions.

Syracuse went on top in the eighth minute when Pleun Lammers ripped a turnaround shot past Conomikes for the first of her brace. Lammers struck again when she reversed chipped home a shot with 5:50 remaining in the second and the Orange tacked on another when Charlotte de Vries reversed chipped one in to the upper left corner to give her team a 3-0 advantage at the break.

The Lions did their best work in the third quarter, limiting the Orange to just three shots, but could not break through Syracuse's back line.
