HEADING TO FLORIDA: Anderson and Berg both punched their tickets to nationals thanks to strong finishes at the NCAA Cross Country Northeast Regionals. Anderson finished sixth overall in her 6K race, posting a time of 20:42, which was good enough to earn an automatic individual bid to nationals.
Berg, who finished 11th with a time of 30:32, had to wait until the next day and the NCAA Cross Country Selection Show. It was there that he learned that he had earned an individual at-large bid and a shot to run for a title.
TAKE THE ONE TRAIN: For only the second time this season, the Lions will take the one train to 242nd Street to run the historic, and familiar course, at Van Cortlandt Park. The last time the Lions were there was on Oct. 8 for the Metropolitan Cross Country Championships, where the women and men both finished fifth overall.
In 2019, the last time the Lions ran at the IC4A/ECAC Championships, Berg took first place with a 5-Mile time of 24:52 and he was closely followed by Vorbach who finished eighth with a time of 25:31. On the women's side, Angela Saidman posted the top finish, coming across at 18:44 to finish 15th, while Emily Digman '20CC crossed the line in 22nd with a time of 18:54.
ALL-REGION LIONS: Anderson and Berg were not alone in turning in solid performances at the regionals, with David Vorbach and Jack Bennett joining the top two Lions in earning Northeast All-Region honors. Vorbach finished 14th with a 10K time of 30:48, while Bennett, running the first 10K of his career, finished 24th (31:04), giving four total Lions All-Region honors.
The Lion men, off their three All-Region finishers, had their best finish at Regionals since 2017, finishing fifth overall.
ALL-IVY LIONS: At the Ivy League Heps, on Oct. 30 at West Windsor Fields, three Lions earned All-Ivy League honors with top 15 finishes. On the women's side, first-year Anderson finished fourth to earn First Team honors, while sophomore Nikki Vanasse finished 11th to earn Second Team honors.
For the men, junior Berg crossed the line 11th to lock up Second Team honors. Academically, Berg earned Academic All-Ivy League honors, along with senior Linnaea Kavulich.
Both the men's and women's teams finished fourth overall at Heps.
