5 THINGS TO KNOW:
1. HISTORIC START
• Columbia enters the game 4-0 for just the second time in the program's Div. I history (since 1986-87). The program's other 4-0 start came in 2002-03. This is the first 4-0 start in the head coaching era of Megan Griffith, who took over the program for the start of the 2016-17 campaign. Columbia has never started 5-0. Additionally. Columbia has won its first three road games for the first time in program history.
• Columbia's 319 points (79.8 ppg) are its most through four games in program history.
• Entering Saturday, the Lions rank No. 1 in the Ivy League in scoring offense.
• The Lions are among the top 3 in the Ivy League in field goal percentage (.431), 3-point percentage (.337), free throw percentage (.690) and 3-pointers made per game (8.0).
• Columbia scored 80+ points in back-to-back games against Davidson, 87-78, and Clemson, 82-78. It marked the first time they had done so since Jan. 3-6, 2016.
3. THREE STRAIGHT AGAINST THE BIG EAST
• The Lions have won three consecutive games against BIG EAST opponents. They earned their last win on Dec. 6, 2019 when they took down Georgetown, 54-49, on Education Day at Levien Gymnasium. The game tipped at 11 a.m. with over 2,400 elementary school students from the New York area in attendance. Columbia earned its first BIG EAST win in program history when it defeated Providence, 66-64, on Education Day in 2016. The Lions beat the Friars again in the 2017-18 season opener.
4. FOURTH-QUARTER TEAM
• Columbia has proven to be a good finishing team this year, outscoring opponents a combined margin of 79-46 in the fourth quarter and limiting the opposition to 11.5 points per game in the final period. In two of those games, the Lions were tied (Davidson) or trailing (Clemson) entering the fourth quarter and went on to win. They outscored Davidson 21-12 over the final 10 minutes to earn an 87-78 win. Two days later, they trailed Clemson 69-60 entering the fourth quarter and outscored the Tigers 22-9 for an 82-78 victory. Columbia has outscored the opponent in the fourth quarter in every game so far this season.
5. THE OPPONENT
• Georgetown (2-1) started the season with wins over Navy, 73-62, and NCAA Div. II Salem, 86-48, before suffering its first loss of the season on Wednesday against Davidson, 70-55. The Wildcats raced out to a 15-4 lead and led by as many as 20 in the second half before the Hoyas made a 9-0 run to try and get back in it. Kelsey Ransom led the Hoyas with 13 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.
• Four Hoyas enter play averaging double figures, led by Milan Bolden-Morris' team-high 12.7 points per game. Graceann Bennett (11.0), Kelsey Ransom (11.0) and Jillian Archer (10.7) round out the quartet. Archer is a force on the glass, averaging 9.3 rebounds, which ranks third in the BIG EAST. Ransom does the majority of the distributing with 22 total assists and 7.3 assists per game, ranking top 25 nationally in each category.
• Georgetown leads the all-time series, 2-1, but Columbia won the last meeting between the two sides on Dec. 6, 2019 in New York, 54-49. The series began in 1996. Prior to 2019, the two sides hadn't competed against one another since 2003.
