Boston College Pulls Away From Lions to Take 73-60 Win

BC used a strong effort on the offensive boards to hold off Columbia Friday.

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — The Columbia men's basketball team dropped a 73-60 decision at Boston College. The Lions (2-4) played with the Eagles (4-3) for much of the afternoon, but BC used a strong effort on the offensive boards to pull away in the second half and earn the victory.

Liam Murphy led all scorers with 19 points and added four rebounds. Geronimo Rubio De La Rosa was right behind him with 17 points, going 5-of-9 from the floor, to go with a pair of steals.

The Eagles raced out to a 12-2 lead just over four minutes in before Columbia settled in. The Lions chipped away at the deficit and tied the score twice, the last time coming on a deep Murphy trey from the BC logo near mid-court to make it 29-29 with 3:54 remaining in the first half. However, the Eagles netted the next seven points and took a 40-33 advantage into the break.

Columbia was held scoreless for the first 5:28 of the second half, bringing Boston College's lead up to 13. Murphy brought the Lions back within 54-46 with another 3-pointer at the 12:03 mark, but that would be as close as Columbia would get.

Boston College held a 48-28 advantage on the glass and had 19 offensive rebounds, leading to 19 second-chance points. Columbia had no second chance points in the contest.

T.J. Bickerstaff pulled down 17 rebounds and added seven points and two blocks for the Eagles. DeMarr Langford had 15 points and seven boards, six of them on the offensive end.

The Lions return home to face Lafayette on Monday, November 26 for a 7 p.m. contest Tickets can be purchased by visiting gocolumbialions.com/tickets or calling 888-LIONS-11. For venue policies at Schiller Court at Levien Gymnasium, click here.
