Columbia Women's Rowing alumna Charlotte Buck will represent the United States in the Women's Eight at the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.
NEW YORK — After a grueling USRowing selection camp with the goal of heading to the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, Columbia Women's Rowing alumna Charlotte Buck '18CC has earned her spot in the Women's Eight boat that will represent the United States at the Summer Olympics, as announced by USRowing on Friday, June 4.
Buck is one of 30 men and women, across five boats, who will represent the United States at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, and she earned her spot in the decorated Women's Eight by outworking her women's rowing peers. She joins a USRowing Women's Eight boat that has won gold at the last three consecutive Summer Olympics and will feature two returning gold medal-winning crew members.
A walk-on in the fall of 2014, Buck eventually worked her way into the top boats for Columbia, becoming one of the top performers for the Lions. During 2018 senior season, she served as the team captain and was named the team MVP.
"Charlotte is dedicated to her training and is truly a ferocious racer," said Columbia Women's Rowing Head Coach Emerson Curry. "We as a program could not be prouder of how she has continued to pursue the level of elite rowing she has now reached, and we are all looking forward to watching her race at the highest level in Tokyo."
The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 kick off July 23, 2021 and conclude August 8, 2021. Olympic rowing will be contested July 23 through July 30, 2021. All rowing events will be held at the Sea Forest Waterway in Tokyo.
Final selections to the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team are subject to U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee approval.
