Women's Golf Announces Signing of Angela Zhang

Zhang transfers to Columbia after two years at Dartmouth; she is eligible to compete immediately for the Lions.

NEW YORK—Columbia women's golf coach Amy Weeks announced the addition of Dartmouth transfer Angela Zhang to its 2021-22 roster. Zhang joins Columbia's Class of 2021 which already includes Paige Harrison (Castaic, Calif./West Ranch H.S.) and Taylor Zeng (Windermere, Fla./The First Academy). She will enroll at Columbia as a sophomore.
 
"Angela is a wonderful addition to our program," Weeks said. "Her Ivy League and international success will boost the depth of our team immediately."
 
With the addition of Zhang, Columbia will now have 10 golfers on its 2021-22 roster. Zhang joins seven returning letterwinners including seniors Alexis Florio, Marlene Tartaro, and Jennifer Wang, juniors Christine Shao and Annie Sun, sophomores Allison Paik and Anne Walsh, and two first-years Paige Harrison and Taylor Zeng.

As a first-year, selected as Dartmouth's co-MVP and Rookie of the Year after finishing the year second on the team in stroke average at 75.10 … WGCA All-American Scholar for having a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 … Earned Academic Honor Roll honors for the 2020-21 school year … Shot no worse than 77 in nine of her 10 rounds … Began her collegiate career by tying for 20th out of 79 golfers at the Dartmouth Invitational, including a 1-over-par 73 in the second round … Had another top-25 finish at the Princeton Invitational with a 7-over-par 151, good for a tie for 23rd out of 80 golfers … Set a program record for a 54-hole tournament by shooting even par (73-72-71) with a dozen birdies at the FAU Winter Warmup, claiming third place out of 81 golfers, the best showing by a Dartmouth golfer all season … Did not get another chance to golf as the COVID-19 pandemic abruptly canceled the remainder of the season.

Born Zi Lan Zhang on December 17, 2011 in Fuzhou, China … Daughter of Nancy Li … Has one sister Jessica … Sister Jessica graduated from Cornell … Hobbies and interests include computer science, anime, food, and working out … Also likes to build apps (tools, games, services, etc.) … During the summer of 2021, served as software engineer for Amazon Web Services' Lambda Control Plan Functions team where she designed and built asynchronous file artifact merging service … Can speak three languages fluently: Mandarin, English, and French … Can also code in eight-plus computer languages … Favorite sports memory was chipping in a shot at the 18th hole to shoot a tournament-low 4-under-par (68) at the 2018 Canadian Junior Girls Tournament … Lists her mother as her role model because she started with nothing in her pocket and became a strong, successful, and self-made businesswoman … She also immigrated to a foreign country and raised two girls on her own … Chose Columbia because it was her dream and inspiration as she was inspired by former Lions golfer Rachel Shi, who became the first Vancouver native to attend an Ivy League school and play golf … Had numerous NCAA Division I scholarship offers and other offers coming out of high school including Dartmouth, Georgetown, Boston College … Enrolled at Columbia College … Intends to major in Computer Science.
