Lions Victorious Against No. 23 Illinois on Final Day of MLK Invite

Columbia collects two singles and two doubles wins against ranked opponent.
ATLANTA, GA -- The Columbia men's tennis team earned four wins against No. 23 Illinois on the third and final day of competition at the MLK Invitational, hosted by Georgia Tech.
#87 Hugo Hashimoto defeated #113 Alex Brown in straight sets, winning the first set 6-2 and the second 7-5. Teammate Austen Huang contributed a victory of his own, defeating Gabriel Guzauskas 6-3, 6-3.
Ishaan Ravichannder and Alex Finkelstein fell to Hunter Heck (7-6 (8-6), 6-4) and Lucas Horve (4-4, retired), respectively. Jayden Templeman and Ben Gollin dropped to Georgia Tech's #9 Andres Martin (6-2, 6-1) and Keshav Chopra (6-1, 6-2).
Columbia concluded the tournnament with a pair of wins in the doubles tournament, Henry Ruger and Templeman defeated Illinois' Kweisi Kenyatte and Gabrielius Guzauskas 6-2, while #12 Alex Kotzen and Ravichander took down Alex Brown and Nic Meister 7-5.
Columbia returns to the court on Jan. 22. The Lions are expected to host Virginia Commonwealth University in New York City; details are forthcoming.
