NEW YORK -- The Columbia's men's swim and dive team will face off against a pair of Patriot League opponents this weekend. The Lions will first travel to Army for a 5:00 P.M. start Friday evening before returning home to Percy Uris on Saturday for a 1:00 P.M. tilt against Navy.
Fans at West Point are expected to abide by spectator policies outlined on GoArmyWestPoint.com.
Columbia will operate under a limited pass list for designated fans, these policies can be found on GoColumbiaLions.com.
The Lions stand at 2-3 on the year, with all dual meet action coming within the Ivy League. Rookie standout Demirkan Demir set a program record in the 200 breaststroke (1:54.28) at Princeton's Big Al Invitational before touching the wall first in the 100 and 200 breaststroke during Columbia's return to competition at Brown on Jan. 15. Classmate Kyle Won also boasted a top finish in Providence, wining the 100 back in 50.14. Senior Jonas Kistorp has led the Lions sprinters, contributing first-place finishes in the 50 free (20.51) and 100 fly (49.63) last weekend.
Columbia divers Jonathan Suckow, Nick Leavell, and Casey Fellows will take to the boards for the first time in 2022 this weekend. Suckow continues to lead the group, remaining undefeated in all events entered this season.
Army (4-3, 1-1 PL) comes off its first Patriot League victory, taking down Bucknell in Lewisburg, PA 206-92 on Jan. 15. During the Black Knights' dominate 200+ point victory, Army secured the top spot inn 15 of 16 events. Jacob Powell and Evan Zhang touched the wall first in the 100 back and 100 breast, respectively, after swimming legs for the winning 200 medley relay team. Ian Tansill, Evan Yoo, and Wes Tate swept the 1,000 free before Yoo swam the fastest time of the 400 IM.
Following a series of cancellations, Navy (7-1, 3-0 PL) will return to the pool on Friday at Princeton before crossing the Hudson to meet the Lions. The Midshipmen were victorious in their most recent meet (Dec. 9), defeating Army 158-142 in Annapolis, MD. Caleb Mauldin has paced Navy this season, most recently improving upon his own Navy, Lejeune Hall and Patriot League record in the 100 back (45.82). The Mids recorded a sweep of the 200 fly as Ethan Tack won the race followed by teammates Patrick Colwell and Bel Selnick.
