HARRISON, N.Y.—The Columbia women's tennis team opens its spring competition schedule on Sunday when it hosts two Northeast Conference opponents in LIU and Sacred Heart in a doubleheader at LifeTime Westchester. Columbia will face LIU at 1 p.m. and play Sacred Heart at 5 p.m.
There are several current COVID protocols at LifeTime Westchester. Spectators for the event are limited to those on a pass list. Upon entry, members and guests are required to show proof of full vaccination when checking into the facility (ages 12 and up). For youth ages 5-11, one dose is required. Masks are mandatory as per Columbia University policy. LifeTime Westchester is located at 1 Westchester Park Drive, West Harrison, N.Y. 10604.
Columbia is coming off its most difficult fall in school history as the Lions played in some several challenging invitationals. The Lions return the majority of their lineup from the 2019-20 season, including senior Akanksha Bhan, Jennifer Kerr, Melissa Sakar, Caitie Sullivan, and Yekaterina Alferova, juniors Shivani Amineni, Sophie Raiszadeh, and Michelle Xu, and sophomore Julia Haynes. Newcomers include sophomores Rachele Rimondini, Sasha Wood, Anna Zhang, and Tatiana Ziff, and first-years Carolyn Brodsky, Fatima Ingrid-Amartha Keita, Clarine Lerby, Sophia Strugnell, and Winta Tewolde.
Kerr led the Lions during the fall portion of the season with eight singles wins. Wood finished with seven wins, while Amineni, Xu, and Lerby each won six matches. In doubles, Kerr and Amineni combined for six wins, while Wood and Strugnell teamed for four victories.
LIU will be playing in its first dual match of year, while Sacred Heart enters the weekend with a 2-2 dual match record.
Next weekend, Columbia will travel to Malibu, Calif. for the ITA Kick-Off Weekend at Pepperdine. The Lions will take on host Pepperdine on Saturday, Jan. 29 and then play either Notre Dame or Colorado on Sunday, Jan. 30.
