Lions Fall to No. 7 Pepperdine in First Round of ITA Kick-Off

Columbia to play Colorado in Sunday’s Consolation match at 10 a.m. PT.
MALIBU, Calif.—The Columbia women's tennis team dropped a 4-0 ITA Kick-Off Weekend match against No. 7 ranked and host Pepperdine Saturday at the Ralph Strauss Tennis Center. With the loss, the Lions (2-1) will face Colorado (0-1) in the Consolation Match on Sunday at 10 a.m. PT.
Pepperdine took the doubles point as Savannah Broadus and Janice Tjen defeated Columbia's Rachele Rimondini and Melissa Sakar 6-1 at No. 2 and Shiori Fakuda and Anastasia Iamachkine won a 6-3 decision over Clarine Lerby and Sophia Strugnell at No. 3 doubles.
The Waves then won three straight singles matches at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 6. No. 31 ranked Fukuda won a 6-1, 6-1 match over Columbia's Akanksha Bhan at No. 1 singles, No. 10 ranked Lisa Zaar claimed a 6-0, 6-1 decision over Columbia's Anna Zhang at No. 2, and Iamachkine took a 7-5, 6-1 win over Columbia's Michelle Xu at No. 6.
