NEW YORK — Despite not getting on the mat since Dec. 4, 2021, Columbia Wrestling still carries four wrestlers nationally ranked by FloWrestling and Intermat, with Joe Manchio (125), Matt Kazimir (141), Kyle Mosher (157) and Joshua Ogunsanya (165) all bringing rankings into Columbia's weekend.
Columbia's highest-ranking wrestler is Kazimir, carries a 7-0 record into the weekend. Columbia's 141-pounder is ranked No. 16 by Flo and No. 14 by Intermat and he already has a win over an Ivy League opponent, having beaten Penn's CJ Composto (dec. 9-2) at the Patriot Open on Dec. 5, 2021.
Joining Kazimir inside the top 20 is Manchio (5-3), who brings a No. 17 ranking by Flo and a No. 19 ranking from Intermat. Manchio has gone 1-1 against ranked opponents this season, having knocked off then-ranked No. 7 Sam Latona (Virginia Tech) at the Southeast Open on Nov. 7, 2021. The Lions 125-pounder also has a win over an Ivy League opponent, with a 3-2 win over Harvard's Beau Bayless coming at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite (Dec. 3, 2021).
Rounding out the final pair of national rankings for "The Nation's Oldest Program" is Ogunsanya (7-3) and Mosher (5-4), with Ogunsanya coming in ranked No. 23 by Flo and No. 22 by Intermat, while Mosher earned an honorable mention from Flo and a No. 29 ranking by Intermat. Ogunsanya's last time out was a successful one, as he finished seventh (165) at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invite, while Mosher stuck a pair of opponents on his way to going 2-2 at the Vegas Invite.
VENUE POLICIES: Due to the substantial increase in the number of COVID-19 cases being reported in New York City, New York State, and the Columbia University campus community, Columbia University is implementing a temporary no-spectator attendance policy for its home athletics events through January 18. This policy is effective immediately.
NEXT UP: Columbia will open the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association campaign by hosting LIU on Schiller Court at Levien Gym on Sunday, Jan. 9 at 1 p.m. Fans will not be allowed to attend, but the match will be available on ESPN+.
FOLLOWING THE LIONS: Stay up to date on all things Columbia Wrestling by following the Lions on Twitter (@CULionsWR), Instagram (@culionswr) and on Facebook (@ColumbiaAthletics).
