PHILADELPHIA — La Salle scored three second-half goals to defeat the Columbia men's soccer team, 3-0, on a damp Tuesday night at McCarthy Stadium.
After a goalless first half, the Explorers (4-8-4) cracked the scoreboard on a penalty kick in the 47th minute. The chance was awarded after
Carmine Falco was whistled for a foul in the box and Omari Cotterell stepped up to convert.
The Lions tried to get back into the game and played with a burst over the ensuing 15 minutes.
Ryan Wallace,
David Walley and Falco all took aim at goal over that span, but none of their shots found the target.
Midway through the period, Cotterell struck again to double the home team's lead. This time, he made a run toward the top of the box and blasted a perfectly placed left-footed shot into the top corner that beat
Michael Collodi to his right. A third goal by Luis Puchol in the 79th minute put the game out of reach.
Columbia (1-7-5, 0-1-3 Ivy) returns home to honor its senior class Saturday night when it hosts Yale (6-4-3, 1-3-0 Ivy). Kickoff from Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
