Four Columbia cross country members prepare to race at nationals
NEW YORK — Three Columbia women and one man from the cross country rosters will represent the Lions on the biggest stage to close out the season — the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Held in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on Saturday, Victoria Patterson, Phoebe Anderson and Elia Ton-That will travel to roar for the women, with Tyler Berg representing Columbia for the men. Thirty-one men's and women's teams were selected to participate in the championships, in addition to the 38 individual men's and women's qualifiers. A full list of entries can be accessed here. Anderson and Berg are repeating their appearances at the Championship from 2021.
Columbia has three of the Ivy league's four individual representatives for the women.
PREVIOUS FINISH LINE
Columbia most recently raced last week in the NCAA Cross Country Regionals, where the women finished third and the men in eleventh place. Patterson (20:34.5), Anderson (20:34.6) and Ton-That (20:36.2) crossed the finish line together, placing fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively out of 254 runners.
Berg finished third on the men's side with an impressive time of 29:26.2, sitting no worse than fourth at any of the splits. As a senior, this upcoming Hep will be Berg's last.
"I'm just trying to do something big in my last cross country race in a Columbia jersey," Berg said.
