NEW YORK — After a successful opening weekend, the Columbia men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to Uris Natatorium Friday, November 11, for a pair of dual meets. The men will welcome Princeton at 1 p.m., followed by the women making its home debut against Yale at 5 p.m.
WOMEN'S PREVIEW
The Columbia women roared to victory, topping Penn last Friday in dominating fashion. With a final score of 177-123, the Lions defeated the Quakers in 11 out of 16 events. Columbia swept the podium in the 50-yard freestyle and Karen Liu and Emily MacDonald won a pair of individual events to lead the squad. MacDonald was also a part of the winning 200 medley relay. Within the diving competition, Alice Diakova won first in both events, in addition to posting a pair of NCAA Zone qualifying scores.
SCOUTING THE YALE WOMEN
As for the Bulldogs, they are coming off of a double victory over Brown and UMass at home. This will also be their first road meet of the season.
Against Columbia last season, the Bulldogs claimed a 194-106 victory over the Lions in New Haven. Columbia will be looking for its first win over Yale since the 2013-14 season.
MEN'S PREVIEW
As for the men's team, the Lions most recently also defeated Penn, 178-122. Starting with the diving competition, Jonathan Suckow set new pool records in the one and three-meter dives — earning first in both. In the pool, Zion James earned first individually in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle races, as well as helping the Lions capture first in the 200-medley relay. The younger Lions helped the team roar to victory as well, with first-year Brian Lee taking first in the 100-yard butterfly, as well as swimming in the relay.
Both Lions' rosters have plenty of seniors to honor during their final season of collegiate eligibility, with each team boasting nine active swimmers who fit the bill.
