Fencing to Compete in LIU Shark Showcase

Lions to take on St. John’s, NYU, Hunter (men), and LIU (women) on Sunday morning at LIU.
BROOKLYN, N.Y.—The No. 3/2 ranked Columbia Fencing teams will travel crosstown to compete in the LIU Shark Showcase on Sunday morning at LIU. Columbia will take on St. John's (10 a.m), NYU (11:15 a.m.), Hunter (men's only at 12:30 p.m.), and host LIU (women's only at 12:30 p.m.).
Columbia Fencing enters the weekend with a combined 38-7 overall dual match record as the women are 20-3 and the men are 18-4. On the women's side, leading the Lions in victories are Sylvie Binder (40-7 in foil), Ariana Mangano (33-8 in epee), Audrey Chu (31-13 in epee), and Nora Burke (32-11 in sabre). On the men's side, victory leaders include Christopher Walker (36-17 in sabre), Sidarth Kumbla (27-7 in foil), James Bourtis (26-10 in foil), Robert Vidovszky (26-7 in sabre), and Teddy Lombardo (25-12 in epee).
Columbia's men's team is currently ranked No. 2 nationally, while the women are No. 3 in the United States Fencing Coaches' Association Mid-Season coaches' poll. Poll results can be found at this link.
The event serves as a final tune-up for the Ivy League Round Robin Fencing Championships, set to take place Saturday, Feb. 12-Sunday, Feb. 13 in Providence, R.I.
Former Columbia fencer Dwight Smith '11CC serves as an assistant fencing coach at LIU.
