Lions Have Strong Weekend To Open Outdoor Season

Columbia Track & Field posted 14 top-five finishes over its opening weekend of outdoor action.

RALEIGH, N.C./WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. — Columbia Track & Field's sprinters had a solid first weekend of the outdoor season, winning three events over the weekend, while overall Columbia posted 14 top-five finishes, winning five events at the Raleigh Relays and the Monmouth Track & Field Outdoor Opener.
 
Columbia's winning marks came both the track and field and the top performances were put in by the men and the women.  For the men, at the Monmouth Opener, Devon Davey took first in the 400m with a time of 47.92 and in the field, Nate Gramentine launched himself 2.05m in the high jump to take first in that event.
 
As for the women's winning finishes, also at the Monmouth Opener, Tessa Green clocked a first-place time of 12.18 in the 100m, Sydney Goldson crossed the line first with a time of 56.24 in the 400m and in the 800m Emily Virtue posted a winning time of 2:17.94,
 
Columbia's other top-five finishes all came at the Monmouth Opener, with Jahi Hernandez finishing second in the 100m (10.76) and 200m (21.46), while Chris Balthazar (10.82) and Davey (21.77) finished third in the 100m and 200m respectively.  Keegan Li gave the men a second-place finish in the hammer throw with a toss of 50.31m.
 
The women top-five finishes at the Monmouth Opener from Rachel Marsh's fourth-place finish of 12.59 in the 100m, Amara Onyeukwu finishing second in the 200m (24.66), Tess Darnell's 1:05.62 in the 400m Hurdles and Story Downing's fourth-place time of 2:22.90 in the 800m.
 
The Lions got three top-25 finishes at the Raleigh Relays from Michael Danzi, David Vorbach and Sofia Camacho,  Danzi finished 18th in the 1,500m (3:42.79), Camacho crossed the line at 16:14.73 to finish 21st in the 5,000m and Vorbach clocked the second fastest time in program history with a 13:57.38 23rd place finish in the 5,000m.
