Eight Lions Set For NCAA East Prelims

The NCAA East Prelim round will get started on Wednesday, May 25 in Bloomington, Indiana.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — Eight Columbia Track & Field student-athletes will head to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships East Preliminary round starting on Wednesday, May 25 and running until Saturday, May 28, looking to finish in the top-12 and punch their ticket to the finals.
On the women's side, four Lions finished inside the top-48 this season, with Kali Hatcher posting the highest mark, collecting the 27th best mark in the triple jump this year (12.89m). In the 1,500m Nikki Vanasse finished with the 32nd mark (4:18.42) and both Phoebe Anderson (16:10.81) and Sofia Camacho (16:14.73) finished with the 41st and 45th best marks respectfully in the 5,000m.
For the men, all four Lions that qualified come from track events, with two qualifying marks being school records. In the 10,000m Tyler Berg, who set a school record with a time of 28:55.99, finished with the 30th best time in the eastern region and in the 5,000m, David Vorbach's school record time of 13:50.13 placed him 41st. Michael Danzi's 3:42.22 in the 1,500m placed him 36th and in the 800m Justin O'Toole placed 40th with a time of 1:48.79.
The Lions get started at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25 when Danzi runs the 1,500m first round. O'Toole will take the track in the 800m at 7:50 p.m. and Berg will run the 10,000m semifinal at 9:10 p.m.
On Thursday, May 26, Vanasse will be the only competitor for Columbia with a 6:30 p.m. start time in the 1,500m's first round. Vorbach gets his first shot at Eugene, Oregon with an 8:10 p.m. start in the 5,000m on Friday, May 27 and on the final day, Sunday, May 28, Hatcher, Anderson and Camacho all get going.
Hatcher's day starts at 6:00 p.m. with the first round of the triple jump and at 8:10 p.m. the 5,000m will get started for Anderson and Camacho.
