Sophia Wang, Alexandra Torre join women’s tennis team
NEW YORK — Women's tennis head coach Ilene Weintraub announced the official addition of first-years Sophia Wang and Alexandra Torre, on Friday.
A blue-chip recruit from St. Petersburg, Florida, Sophia Wang arrives in Morningside Heights one of the top-rated athletes in the country. While boasting a 21-11 record, including nine victories against five-star recruits, Wang ranked as high as No. 16, nationally, in 2022.
This summer, Wang was named the 2022 USTA National Junior Scholar-Athlete. Awarded on an annual basis, the accolade recognizes one male and one female high school tennis player that excels both on and off the court.
Hailing from Brentwood, Tennessee, Alexandra Torre recorded both team and doubles state titles in 2019. The 2020 USTA Girls 16s National level 2 Champion made back-to-back appearances at the Girls 18s Clay Court Nationals in 2022 and 2021. She has ranked as high as No. 22 in the recruiting class of 2022.
Based on insights from TennisRecruiting.net, the pair comprises the #24 Top Recruiting Class of 2022 marking the tenth time in as many years that the Lions' have ranked among the Top 25.
