Women’s Soccer Set to Open 2022 Campaign

The Lions welcome St. John’s to Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium

NEW YORK — The Columbia women's soccer team is set to open the 2022-23 season on Sunday, August 28 against St. John's. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 P.M. at the Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium at the Baker Athletics Complex in northern Manhattan.

Fans can catch all the action live on ESPN+ or through live stats on GoColumbiaLions.com.

The Lions look to build upon a 9-6-1 result from 2021, highlighted by conference victories over Dartmouth, Yale, and Penn. Key returners include First Team All-Conference athletes Nata Ramirez and Ally Clark, as well as All-Ivy Honorable Mentions Marcia Ojo and Sophia Cavaliere.

Since the conclusion of the 2021 season, Columbia has welcomed six athletes to the squad including four first-years and two transfers. A native of Wayne, N.J., sophomore transfer Courtney Ruedt was a member of a Rutgers University which advanced to the 2022 Women's College World Cup Final Four.

Additional notable off-season movement includes the elevation of Amphone Keovongmanysar to Associate Head Coach. Head coach Tracey Bartholomew and Keovongmanysar have worked in tandem for over two decades including a 14-year stint at Long Island University before the pair transitioned to Morningside Heights in 2014.

THE OPPONENT: St. John's enters Sunday at 1-1-1.

The Red Storm opened their season on August 18 with a 2-1 victory over Saint Joseph's before battling to a draw against NJIT (2-2) and an 0-2 loss against Sacred Heart.

Senior Jessica Garziano has emerged as SJU's player to watch, garnering a spot on the TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the Week (8/23) after recording two goals with one assist in two contests.

Sunday marks the second consecutive season Columbia has opened against St. John's. Last season, the Lions battled to a 3-3 draw in Queens, New York on August 27.
