Nidhi Kanchumarthi, Zoe Meshel, and Judith Gottlieb to captain Lions in 2022-23.
NEW YORK – Longtime Columbia archery head coach, Derek Davis, announced seniors Nidhi Kanchumarthi and Zoe Meshel and sophomore Judith Gottlieb as team captains for the 2022-23 season.
Columba enters the year fresh off a runner-up finish at the 2022 USA Archery Collegiate Archery Nationals in the recurve division. Gottlieb was crucial to the Lions success, shooting for the recurve squad with teammates Dorothy Vassantachart and Meghan Collins.
Gotlieb, a California native, was a 2022 USA Archery Academic All-American, who put up impressive marks at the 2022 Senior Nationals (1217), USAT Buckeye Classic (621) and the World Archery Puerto Rico Cup (seventh place finish).
Also hailing from California, Kanchumarthi is a four-year member of the Lions squad. As a first-year in 2020, she received All-America accolades and an invite to the USA Archery Collegiate Indoor Nationals where she finished 10th.
Shooting recurve, Kanchumarthi contributed to a team gold medal at the 2022 USA Archery Collegiate Target Regionals while finishing fourth in the individual competition.
Also a four-year team member, Meshel arrived in Morningside Heights by way of Roslyn, New York. Competing in the compound division, she took fourth place at the 2020 Cupid Classic contributing to a four-woman Columbia sweep.
The Columbia archery team will begin competing in February. Additional schedule details are forthcoming.
