The sophomore earned an at-large bid into the field
SAN DIEGO – Sophomore Michael Zheng will represent Columbia at the ITA National Fall Championships in San Diego, California this week after earning at at-large bid into the singles tournament.
Zheng will learn his opponent when draws are announced ahead of the tournament start on Wednesday. Zheng enters the tournament with a 9-2 record during the fall season. He played his way to the singles semifinals in the ITA Super Regionals before dropping a three-set battle to Harvard's Cooper Williams.
The 2023 ITA National Fall Championships will take place November 1-5, 2023, at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, California. The Championships are the grand finale to the fall collegiate tennis season and feature 64 of the nation's top collegiate singles players (32 men and 32 women) and 64 doubles teams (32 men's team and 32 women's teams). The event is in its seventh year, having replaced the ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships beginning in 2017.
The rest of the team will head to New Haven, Connecticut this weekend to compete at the Yale Invitational starting Friday and wrapping up Sunday. Following the ITA National Fall Championships and the Yale Invitational, Columbia's fall tennis season will be complete.
