Lions set to begin 2024 campaign January 27
NEW YORK — Columbia archery head coach Derek Davis announced the team's 2024 schedule on Friday. The Lions are currently slated to compete in six events, three indoor and three outdoor, beginning January 27.
The Lions are coming off a 2023 season that saw Lillian Han, Judith Gottlieb, Sydney Sullenberger and Sachiko Keane earn All-American status at Collegiate Target Nationals. Recurve shooters Han and Gottlieb both return this season. Sullenberger returns in the compound. Keane graduated from Columbia at the conclusion of last season. Columbia's compound team took the silver medal at outdoor nationals.
The 2024 season begins January 27 at the Easton Youth & Collegiate Trophy Tournament. Sullenberger (compound) and Han (recurve) won their respective divisions at last year's event. Five Lions earned podium finishes. The shoot will take place in Manheim, Pennsylvania.
Just a few days later, the Lions will head to Las Vegas for The Vegas Shoot (Feb. 1-4). The Vegas Shoot is known as the largest and most prestigious indoor archery tournament in the World. The event brings together nearly 4,000 archers from around the Globe ranging from beginner archers to Olympic champions. Senior, youth, compound, or recurve. The Vegas Shoot will be held at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
USA Archery Indoor Nationals takes place Feb. 24-25 at the home of James Madison in Harrisonburg, Virginia. Last year, Sachiko Keane won gold in the Compound Collegiate Women's Division, while Lillian Han won gold in the Recurve Collegiate Women's Division. As a team, the Lions took second in both the compound and recurve.
The outdoor season begins with the 2024 Arizona Cup, which takes place April 4-7 at the Ben Avery Shooting Facility in Phoenix. Last year, Keane, Han and Sullenberger all earned podium finishes in their respective divisions. Returners Han and Sullenberger earned bronze in the U21 (Junior) Divisions.
The outdoor season culminates with Collegiate Target Regionals (April 20-21) and Collegiate Target Nationals (May 16-19). Columbia dominated regionals in 2023, winning every medal it competed for. The Lions took team gold in the regionals in women's recurve, while Sullenberger (compound) and Han (recurve) won gold individually.
