PRINCETON, N.J. -- The Columbia women's swimming and diving team resides in fifth place after the first night of the 2023 Ivy League Championships. This year's event, hosted on the campus of Princeton University, will run through February 18, with three more full days of events still to be completed.
The Lions have accumulated 102 points thus far, sitting just behind Yale and Brown who are currently tied for third place with 106 points. Harvard hold second place with 108 points, and Princeton has a solid lead in first place with 128 points.
Tonight, Columbia competed in the 200-medley relay as well as the 800-free relay. After a sixth place finish in the opening relay, the 800-free relay team consisting of
Olivia Jubin,
Aziza Ganihanova,
Allison Martin, and
Emily MacDonald set a new program record with a time of 7:10.44, beating the previous record by over four seconds. This was good for a third place finish in the event.
"Solid first night for the Lions," Head Coach
Diana Caskey said. "We have been gunning for the 800-free relay record for a number of seasons, so it was fun to break it so decisively. Aziza's anchor leg was epic! Looking forward to the first full day tomorrow."
Competition resumes tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the first preliminary round of the week. Finals are set for 6 p.m. Live stats can be found
HERE, while both rounds will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
