Lazits, Hage, and Selinsky homer on Sunday

PRINCETON, N.J. — Columbia baseball won game one of Sunday's doubleheader, 5-4, before falling in game two to Princeton, 7-5, at Clarke Field.

Cole Hage went 4-for-8 on the day with a home run, two RBIs, and two runs scored. After three RBIs on Friday, Weston Eberly drove in three more runs on Sunday on three hits. Anton Lazits hit the game-winning home run in game one and Skye Selinsky also homered in game two.

Game 1 Recap:

Lazits crushed a go-ahead solo home run in the eighth inning to put Columbia (18-13, 8-4) in front, 5-4. It was his second of the season and came on a 2-1 pitch with two outs in the inning.

Justin Tucker came on for the ninth and earned his fifth save of the year after tossing a scoreless inning. Tucker walked the leadoff batter but was able to get a ground ball to Blake at shortstop who turned an easy 6-4-3 double play. Tucker then got a fly out to end the ball game.

Columbia got on the board in the top of the first on an Eberly sacrifice fly that scored Andy Blake and gave the Lions a 1-0 lead.

In the third inning, Columbia took a 2-0 lead with two outs when Eberly lined one to right field and the diving attempt came up unsuccessful. Hayden Schott raced all the way around from first base to score. The Lions added another run in the fourth on an RBI single from Selinsky to make it 3-0.

Lions starting pitcher Joe Sheets went 6.1 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits with five strikeouts.

Princeton tied the game in the bottom of the seventh with two more runs on a pair of singles to make it a 4-4 game off Derek Yoo. Yoo was able to strand the bases loaded and keep the game tied going into the eighth. He got credited with his first win of the season. Sam Miller tossed a scoreless eighth inning.

With Columbia trailing by three and one out, Griffin Palfrey singled and then Blake reached on a fielder's choice. Schott singled to give the Lions first and second with two outs for Eberly, who flew out to end the game.

Princeton hit two solo home runs off Palfrey in the second inning to open the scoring and jump out to a 2-0 lead. The Tigers added a run in the home third on a Matt Scannell RBI single. Brandon Madrigal entered in the inning and stranded two runners.
