PRINCETON, N.J. – Four Columbia women's tennis players – junior

Winta Tewolde (Second Team Singles), Zhang and first-year
Sophia Wang (Second Team Doubles), and senior
Michelle Xu (Academic All-Ivy) – earned Women's Tennis All-Ivy League accolades, the conference office announced on Thursday afternoon.
"This is well deserved recognition for our players who achieved a lot of success during Ivy season," Columbia Women's Tennis Head Coach
Ilene Weintraub said. "Anna earned an overall 4-3 record during Ivy play and stepped up to clinch our match vs. Harvard. Winta had an undefeated 4-0 record in Ivy singles competing consistently well each match to always put our team in a winning position."
Zhang earned First-Team All-Ivy recognition for her performance in singles play this spring. She went 8-8 in the spring dual season with wins at the No. 1 spot in Ivy League matches against Penn, Dartmouth, Harvard, and Yale. Zhang clinched Columbia's 4-3 win over No. 72 Harvard as she rallied to force a third set that she would end up winning. Zhang earned second team honors last season.
Tewolde garnered Second-Team All-Ivy honors for her impressive performance in singles play this spring. She posted a 9-2 record in dual matches with wins in four Ivy League duals – Cornell, Penn, Yale, and Brown. Tewolde primarily played in the middle of the lineup in the No. 3 and 4 spots. She worked her way up the playing the No. 2 singles in the last two matches of the season against Yale and Brown.
The duo of Zhang and
Sophia Wang earned Second-Team All-Ivy status in doubles. The duo played the No. 1 doubles spot almost all season for the Lions as they achieved a 10-4 record with wins against Cornell and Dartmouth in Ivy League play.
"
Sophia Wang is only getting started, having just completed her first season as a Lion," Weintraub said. "It is exciting to have all of these players returning next year."
Xu joined the list of All-Ivy Lions as she was recognized as Academic All-Ivy. A native of Vienna, Virginia, Xu will graduate from Columbia College with a degree in economics. She will begin her career as an equity research associate at Barclays this summer.
"I am in awe of Michelle in terms of how she is able to balance the demands of being a Division I athlete in a rigorous academic environment and achieve so much success in both areas," Weintraub said. "She is a role model for our younger players and we wish her all the best in her future endeavors."
