NEW YORK -- The Columbia lacrosse team will conclude its 2023 season on Saturday afternoon with a conference tilt against Yale set for 1 p.m. at Robert K. Kraft Field. Following the conclusion of the game, Columbia will honor its nine seniors in a senior day ceremony.
SENIOR DAY
Following the conclusion of Saturday's game, the Lions will honor their nine seniors in a senior day ceremony.
Columbia's nine seniors are
Lindsay Schuster,
Ella Sangree, Adèle Swanson,
Isabel Sondey,
Kayla Nitahara,
Claire Briglio,
Gianna Danese,
Justine Decker, and
Madison Levinson. Be sure to stick around after the game for the entire ceremony.
"The Class of 2023 persevered through a pause in their playing career due to the restrictions of coid-19," Head Coach
Anne Murray said. "They have been instrumental in solidifying a culture of support and perseverance for the Columbia Lacrosse program and we are honored to recognize these women today."
LAST TIME OUT
Last weekend, the Lions took on the Harvard Crimson in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Harvard came out on top in the game, 19-4.
Kate Cunning led Columbia's attack with two goals.
Gianna Danese and
Serena Hong had one goal each.
Emma Neclerio led Columbia with three saves.
Annalisa Massaro and
Cordelia Flemming both had a team-high six ground balls. Adèle Swanson had four draw controls
SCOUTING YALE
The Bulldogs enter tomorrow's game with a 9-5 overall record, and a 3-3 mark in the Ivy League.
Last time out, Yale suffered a 14-12 loss to Ivy League foe Cornell.
The Bulldogs' senior attacker Olivia Penoyer leads the Ivy League in assists with 30 and set the Yale career assists record with her 87th earlier this season. Sophomore attacker Jenna Collignon is second in the Ivy League in goals with 45 and tied for second in points with 55. Earlier this year she was named to the Tewaaraton Award Women's Watch List and was an Honorable Mention ILWomen Midseason All-American. She has a 21 game point-scoring streak dating back to last season
Yale has won the last two games against the Lions, including a 24-14 win last season at Reese Stadium.
WHAT'S AT STAKE
Columbia will be looking to finish off the 2023 season with a victory, and secure its first Ivy League victory of the year, and since 2019. In addition, the Lions will be looking to play spoiler, as the Bulldogs currently sit in a four-way tie for third place, and need a win to secure a spot in the postseason.
ON DECK
Columbia will head into the offseason taking away a lot of positives from the 2023 season, including a massive 16-4 victory in the home opener against CCSU and a great performance in the season opener resulting in a 15-12 win over Lafayette. The first-year class has been a major bright spot for this team, with
Cecelia Messner leading the team in goals (24) and points (29).
Cordelia Flemming is third on the team with 16 goals and 19 points.
Annalisa Massaro is fourth on the team with 16 points.
