Kwak (-2) finishes second individually
SPRINGFIELD, Pa. — Led by junior Alvin Kwak's 36-hole collegiate-low 2-under-par 138, the Columbia men's golf team earned second place on Monday at the Columbia Spring Invitational. The single-day, 36-hole tournament was held at Rolling Green Golf Club.
Kwak was solid all day. He started by parring 16 holes in round one to card an even-par 70. After a bogey on his starting third to open the second round, the Mukilteo, Washington native birdied the fourth, seventh, 16th and his closing par-4, 433-yard second to post a 2-under 68. The round was a stroke shy of his collegiate-low 67 from the fall, but his 36-hole total of 138 marked the lowest two-round score of his collegiate career.
Kwak (-2) was solo second, one shot ahead of Harvard's Kevin Sze and Jeff Fang. Brian Ma (-6) took the medalist honors with a two-round total of 6-under-par 134. The Crimson also won the team event by 16 strokes.
Columbia was a clear second as a team, eight shots better than third-place Yale. Pat Healy carded back-to-back rounds of 72 to shoot 4-over for the day and tie for 11th. Nathan Han (+5) and DJ Francey (+5) tied for 16th, while Wyatt McGovern (+11) was 49th and William Sung (+12) was 56th.
Competing as an individual, Darren Pang (+6) finished in the top 20 with rounds of 75 and 71. George Rubelsky (+15) also took part as an individual.
The Lions compete again on Saturday and Sunday at the Princeton Invitational. The two-day tournament will be held at Springdale Golf Club in Princeton, New Jersey. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.
