Lions win all three races vs. No. 9 Dartmouth
LEONIA, N.J. — The No. 7 Columbia rowing lightweight team won its ninth-straight Subin Cup over No. 9 Dartmouth on Sunday at Overpeck Park.
The Lions swept all three varsity eight races over the Big Green. In 1987, the Subin Cup was established in honor of D. William Subin, Dartmouth '63, Columbia Law '66. Subin coxed the heavyweight varsity at Dartmouth and coached lightweights while studying law at Columbia. He was in attendance for the races on Sunday.
"It brings back some very fond memories of the toughness of the Columbia crews," Subin said. "Today indicated that Columbia's crews are doing very well. I'm very proud of both Dartmouth and Columbia for their toughness and good spirits."
Subin touched on what it means to have this cup named after him.
"It's pretty awesome," Subin said. "I had to look and remember it's been since 1987. I'm glad to see they polished it up and I'm very happy to see the spirit of competition continue. But I'm also pleased to see the sportsmanship exhibited between the two crews."
