Hsu Named to USA Women’s AmeriCup Team

Earns one of final four spots after two-day training camp

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Columbia women's basketball rising senior Abbey Hsu has been selected to the 2023 USA Basketball Women's AmeriCup Team, as announced by USA Basketball Thursday night. The 12-member team will compete at the 2023 FIBA Women's AmeriCup July 1-9 in León, Mexico.

After hosting AmeriCup Trials in May, USA Basketball selected eight athletes to the USA Women's AmeriCup Team. Hsu was selected as one of six athletes that were invited to return to training camp to compete for the final four roster spots, which took place June 21-22 in Colorado Springs.

The 2023 USA Women's AmeriCup Team members are Janiah Barker, Lauren Betts, Chance Gray, Abbey Hsu, Rickea Jackson, Raven Johnson, Deja Kelly, Rayah Marshall, Charisma Osborne, Laila Phelia, Angel Reese and Jewel Spear. The team was selected by the USA Basketball Women's Junior National Team Committee.

The 2023 USA Women's AmeriCup Team is led by head coach Kamie Ethridge and assistants Aaron Johnston and Katrina Merriweather.

Hsu joins 2018 Columbia graduate Camille Zimmerman as the two Lions now actively competing for USA Basketball. Zimmerman, the program's all-time leader in scoring (1,973) and rebounding (940) was named to the 3x3 Women's Series Team last week.

The United States will face Argentina, Brazil, Cuba and Venezuela as part of Group A. The U.S. opens pool play against Venezuela on July 1, followed by Argentina on July 2 and Brazil on July 4 with all three games tipping off at 4:40 p.m. ET. The USA closes pool play facing Cuba on July 5 at 2:10 p.m. ET.

If the USA advances, quarterfinals are scheduled for July 7 followed by semifinals on July 8 and the medal games on July 9. Game times and broadcast information will be announced later.

Hsu is coming off a 2022-23 collegiate campaign in which she broke the Ivy League's 3-point record for a second-consecutive season. The junior topped the 108 from last season with a record 112 treys, ranking No. 4 in the NCAA in total threes and No. 2 in 3-pointers per game (3.29), trailing only All-American and 2023 AP Women's College Basketball Player of the Year Caitlin Clark. Hsu ranked among the top of the Ivy League in 3-point percentage (.377), led the league and ranked top 50 nationally in points per game (17.8) and was also top 50 in the country in total field goals made (209).

Leading Columbia to its most wins in program history (28-6) and a run to the WNIT Championship Game, Hsu garnered several accolades through her junior campaign. The Parkland, Florida native was named a WBCA All-America Honorable Mention, a semifinalist for the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award, voted First Team All-Met and was a unanimous First Team All-Ivy League honoree. She was also named Ivy League Player of the Week a league-best four times through the 2022-23 season.
