Lions take on the Bears on Saturday in Rhode Island before returning home to host the Big Red on Sunday
NEW YORK — After over a month break from competition for the holidays, the Columbia women's swimming and diving team returns to action this weekend with a back-to-back scheduled against Brown and Cornell. The Lions will travel to Rhode Island to take on the Bears on Saturday before returning home to New York City to host the Big Red Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Columbia last competed as a team on December 1, when the Lions earned their third consecutive first place finish at the ECAC Winter Championships in East Meadow.
Emily MacDonald and Aziza Ganihanova stayed hot, each winning three individual events over the course of the weekend. Ashley Hu won two individual events. Allison Martin, Georgia Young, Meredith Stewet, and Emily Wang each touched the wall first in various events.

WINTER TRAINING
Over the course of the last month, the Columbia women's swimming and diving team wasn't dormant. The Lions traveled to Florida for a training trip in Key Largo to hone their skills and practiced as hard as they have all year.
"Intercession training is always a great opportunity to focus on our craft without the stresses of academics," Head Coach Diana Caskey said. "This group took full advantage of that both in Percy Uris and in Key Largo over the break."
"It's a slight challenge to touch down from the trip Thursday afternoon and race good teams Saturday and Sunday, but in swimming, the championships at the end of the season are what count most, so we accept the challenge to have taken full advantage of our winter training in the Keys. And we think we have improved greatly as a result."
SCOUTING BROWN
Brown comes into Saturday's meet with a 2-3 record in the Ivy League, owning wins over Penn and Dartmouth, but losing to Harvard, Princeton and Yale.
Last season, the Bears went 3-4 overall with a 3-4 Ivy League record. Brown and Columbia faced off in January last year, with the Lions coming out on top 156-144. The Bears went on to finish fourth at the Ivy League Championships.
The Crimson enter Friday's meet having won 36 of the 37 all-time meetings. Harvard has won eight straight in the series.
SCOUTING CORNELL
The Big Red make the trip to Percy Uris Natatorium with a 5-1 overall record, and a 3-1 record in Ivy League meets. Cornell has wins over Dartmouth, Penn, and Harvard, but lost to Princeton.
Last season, the Big Red went 5-4 overall with a 3-4 Ivy League record. Cornell and Columbia faced off in January last year, with the Lions emerging victorious by a score of 169-126. The Big Red went on to finish in seventh place at the Ivy League Championships in February.
Columbia enters Sunday's meet leading the all-time series against Cornell, 26-16.
